mystery bottle

I braved the wind and rain and went to the Boot Sale last Sunday. I found this rather battered ceramic bottle lurking underneath someone's table and fell in love with it. It's a very busy bottle, covered with charming European scenes of buildings and people including a skier, a windmill, a 2CV, and a man shooting a deer. I can't work out where its from, does anyone know?

  5. lovely bottle! it looks very similar to a little plate that I have which has a map of Denmark on it, although it has a bit of handpainted colour on top of the linework. It's unmarked though apart from 'silk screened hand painted' so it still doesn't help solve your mystery!
I've just found your blog so apologies for the delayed comment!

  7. mystery solved! these bottles were manufactured in the 1960s and 70s to hold Escorial Gruen, a type of herb liquor manufactured by a company called Riemerschmid from Munich. thank-you mithi

  8. Just came across your post- I have the same bottle I found in a thrift store in Los Angeles, and it still has a label on the back that indicates the importer is based in "New York 20, NY" - which shows that this pre-dates American zip codes (early 60s I think)- so I believe this design of the bottle is likely from the 1950s. Extremely cool...
